I fully intended to wait until I at least finished Falling Kingdoms before buying the last book, because on the chance that I don’t enjoy it, it’ll feel a little less ridiculous if I don’t own the whole series. Then Barnes & Noble had a sale and how much more embarrassing can it really feel to have one more book? I basically already have them all.

I added American Panda to the cart because of its Asian rep, which focuses on Taiwanese culture in particular. A Forest of a Thousand Lanterns is one of the titles that comes up when I search for unforgiving protagonists, characters as ruthless as Lada from And I Darken. I find that they usually make for some incredibly satisfying stories.

What kind of protagonist do you love to read about? Is it the cynic, the romantic, the anti-hero, or a different type altogether?

I’m so happy to hear that you enjoyed it! I have a hard time staying invested enough to finish a light contemporary, but I’m hoping that American Panda will be a fun engaging read. Funny characters can’t hurt, either. 🙂

  1. Nice haul 😀 I adored Forest of a thousand lanterns, hope you enjoy it! And I can confirm the protagonist is ruthless and can be compared to Lada in the anti-hero scale. I’ve been hearing good things about American panda, I think it’s time for me to pick it up!
