Stacking the Shelves: What Happened When You Made The Deal With the Grisha

stacking the shelves is hosted weekly by tynga’s reviews and reading reality.

The Deal by Elle Kennedy
What Happened by Hillary Rodham Clinton
The Language of Thorns by Leigh Bardugo
Warcross by Marie Lu

It didn’t even occur to me that I would want the “abs” edition of The Deal until they announced the redesign of the Off-Campus series. Of all the new covers, I like the first book the most, which works out in my favor because it’s also my favorite of all of them. I’m so excited to read the Briar Hockey series. I told myself that I wasn’t really interested in The Language of Thorns, but it’s Leigh Bardugo (like that’s suppose to explain everything) and the hardcover is nothing short of beautiful. Fitting, especially because of how much I love Leigh’s writing. I’d really to read the short stories soon but HI CAN WE JUST TALK ABOUT THE KING OF SCARS FOR ONE SECOND BECAUSE NIKOLAI IS GETTING HIS STORY and Leigh Bardugo has a pretty damn good track record with duologies. I’m also not too sure why Barnes and Noble keeps sending me packages with damaged books. Warcross came with a slit in the back cover and bended pages, and The Language of Thorns has a rip in the dust jacket too.

Even though I don’t mind tossing my books this way and that or marking the pages until the margins run out, I still prefer the books I paid good money for to come to me in the best condition possible. What Happened really isn’t something that would’ve made it onto my radar as a hey this looks good lets buy this to read now okay? kind of book. I started seeing a few people I follow talk about it though, and I started getting more and more curious until I finally went to Target and found the last lone copy. As per what seems like a recent unfortunate tradition, this book had some weird markings on the spine. I was so curious at that point that I ended up buying it anyway. Honestly, I’m twenty pages in and no one warned me (they totally did though) that I would be crying all the tears. It’s so emotionally draining that I really can’t read more than a couple of pages at a time. For some masochistic reason, that’s really satisfying to me.

What speaks to you most: hunter, player, hacker, pawn?
